Ms. Erika Smith
Instructor: Erika Smith

Welcome to our class web page! My name is Erika Smith and I am excited to be your child's teacher. I have lived here in Batesburg-Leesville all my life and graduated from BLHS in 1984. I have a 13 year old son Mike, who is the apple of my eye. He is an eigth grader at Batesburg-Leesville Middle School. I am a USC-Aiken graduate where I earned a B.A.degree in Early Childhood Education. In 1995 I received a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education from University of South Carolina (GO Gamecocks!). I have been teaching in Lexington School District 3 for 21 years and and all at BLPS. I have been teaching 5 year old kindergarten for 21 wonderful years!

I believe that a healthy education encourages and supports the learning process of young children. Children learn best by exploring the world around them. Each child has their own special abilities, needs and learning priorities. I believe in teaching the individual child and giving them key experiences and an age appropriate curriculum.

My teaching assistant Mrs. Belton, is a wonderful asset to my classroom! Mrs. Belton is very knowledgeable when it comes to children, she has been teaching for 33 years all in K4 and K5. She is also a native of Batesburg-Leesville and is well known in the community. Mrs. Belton and her husband John have 2 daughters Sharon and Kaundra. Sharon is a graduate of Vorhees College and Kaundra is a senior at B-L High School. Mrs. Belton is very active with her family and church. She is a favorite with all the children!

Please come visit us in room 403, we love to see our parents and have volunteers!
